We’ve graduated! Liam has now passed the Junior 1 level at Goldfish Swim School and has moved on to the Junior 2 class. By “we”, I mean Liam, but since Jamie and I have done a lot of encouraging, reinforcing what he’s learned and helping him practice in the bathtub and the pool between lessons, I think “we” suits pretty well. But Liam’s the one who’s put in a lot of hard work.
- kick his legs while holding onto a floating bar
- stick his face underwater for 10 seconds
- do the superman glide for 5 feet
- float on his back, assisted, for 5 seconds
- float on his front, assisted, for 5 seconds
- climb out of the pool on his own
- jump into the water, turn around and swim back to the wall
- roll from back-to-front and front-to-back in the water
I love that Goldfish gives us a whole checklist to see what he’s learning in each class and what he needs to complete in order to move on to the next level. Speaking of which, Goldfish is holding its spring Jump Start Clinics March 26-30.
The Jump Start Clinics are a great way to get kids introduced to the water or to really make some headway in laying a stronger foundation for your child’s swimming skills. Kids will take a 30-minute swim lesson for four or five consecutive days, which allows them to speed up the learning process a little. Instead of doing one lesson a week like normal, you’re packing it all into a single week. We’ve skipped some lessons recently between sickness and traveling, so I’m thinking about signing Liam up to help us get back on track. You can read more about the benefits of a Jump Start Clinic here. Sign-ups begin March 1st and you can register by calling 614-407-3474.
