Did you know that May is National Water Safety Month? Liam’s school had Corey the Safety Boat out yesterday to talk about water safety. The talked about how it’s important to always swim with a buddy, wear your life jacket, and to only swim when a parent or lifeguard is around. This is super important info for our kids to learn, especially as we head into summer. Making sure your child has all the right tools and knowledge to be safe around water is so important. So while teaching them these things is great, it’s also important to make sure that they know what to do if they fall into the water by accident or find themselves in trouble while swimming.
At Goldfish Swim School, some of the first things they do is teach the kids how to flip over in the water and float on their backs, and how to hold on to and climb out of the side of the pool. It’s not just about learning swimming skills – it’s about making water safety a priority. I love that at Goldfish, Liam’s safety is just as important to them as it is to me. According to the CDC, drawing is the leading cause of accidental-injury death among children ages 1-4. So this is a big deal.
If your family wants to learn more about water safety, or if you want a chance to check out the Goldfish facility, both the Dublin and Westerville locations are holding free water safety events tomorrow, May 19, from 4-6 p.m. They’ll be holding water safety clinics, a free family swim (with lifeguards on duty), entertainment and refreshments. We went last year and it was so much fun. Don’t believe me? Check out some of the things they had at the Westerville location last year. Liam had a blast and we learned a lot too!
