It’s hard not to feel cooped up from the cold in the wintertime. Especially this year, I think. It seemed like the weather couldn’t decide when winter should arrive and now all of a sudden it’s here. I’ve been trying to find things to get us out of the house every now and then whenever the weather is above freezing to help us winter blues. Most recently, we visited the Ohio Chinese Lantern Festival. It’s been running since November at the Ohio State Expo Center, but the festival ends January 8th. If you haven’t made it over to the Chinese lantern festival yet, you’ll definitely want to make room in your plans to go. The hours are 5-10 p.m. every day.
These displays are so intricate and beautiful. We had so much fun viewing each of them. The 200-foot long illuminated dragon is hard to miss, but my personal favorite were the African tigers, zebras and giraffes.
There’s also a small showing of Chinese crafts (the Chinese paper cutting we saw was unbelievable, but I think this might change nightly) and musical performances.
Tickets for the Chinese lantern festival are $15 for adults, $10 for youth ages 3-17 (2 and under are free) or $12 for military with ID. You can also purchase a family 4-pack (2 adult and 2 youth tickets) for $40. I recommend you skip the long ticket line and buy your tickets online in advance. Parking is $5.
Hope you can make it to this one – it was definitely a fun experience!
