Valentine’s Day is this weekend and I couldn’t imagine a better entrepreneur to share in this week’s Meet the Maker series post than Tiffany, half of the team at CampLight Apparel. Tiffany and her husband Jacob design fun and positive-message kids’ clothing. What’s so great about what they’re doing is that they’ve built a business that extends beyond creating cute tees for kids. They’re using their brand as a platform to teach about self love as well as loving others. Tiffany also has a powerful personal story, which you can read on their instagram page. I’m sure you’ll love getting to know Tiffany as much as I have. Don’t forget to enter to win our giveaway too – details are posted below Tiffany’s Meet the Maker interview.
Tell us a little about yourself and how you got here. Where did you get the idea to start CampLight Apparel?
We are a husband and wife team based out of Nashville, Tennessee. We create kids’ clothing inspired by the simplicity and joy of childhood. We work together on every design and try to make a positive impact with the products we release.
CampLight Apparel started last April after a visit to a friend left me inspired to start a business with an emphasis on giving back. We had dreamed about starting a clothing company before, but this time around, the timing seemed perfect. We announced our new venture on April Fools Day. Looking back, we’re surprised more people didn’t think it was a joke; with two kids and two jobs, life was more than a little crazy. However, we really believed in this idea and dove in, designing and releasing ten shirts over the next couple of months. Since then, it’s been a huge blessing to be able to continue to create these products.
Where did CampLight Apparel get its name?
It’s a reminder to let your light shine.
What inspires you the most?
What inspires me is seeing people go above and beyond, giving their all to help others in need. This is why it’s been important to us that CampLight apparel make a difference from the beginning. We partner with an organization called Harvest107 and every purchase from our shop helps them feed malnourished children in Haiti. We’ve also created designs for specific purposes. Our BRAVE design, for example, was created to help fund a couple who are undergoing an extremely long adoption process. Our I HAVE WORTH design is based on empowerment and we’ve used it to encourage our online community to share their stories of struggle and healing.
What are the best and hardest things about being your own boss?
The best thing is being able to be a stay-at-home mom while I run the business. The hardest is often having to work at night and during the weekend.
What advice would you share with other women entrepreneurs?
Don’t give up on your dreams. Owning a kids’ clothing company was a dream of mine for a long time before it became a reality. I’m so thankful that I didn’t give up.
What is your favorite item from your shop?
Our I HAVE WORTH tee. It hits close to home and is a daily reminder of the value we all have. I’ve loved seeing people with all different kinds of insecurities reach out to say what that message has meant to them.
What’s next for CampLight Apparel?
Getting to move our stock out of our kitchen pantry! In all reality, we would love to see our clothes on children all over the world.
What show(s) are you watching right now?
I just finished watching Making a Murderer (Guilty or innocent?! Thoughts?). My favorite shows are Dateline and 20/20. I’m secretly a private investigator, or at least that’s what my friends say.
Tiffany, thank you so much for sharing a little bit about CampLight Apparel this week! Your passion for philanthropy and leaving an imprint on peoples’ lives is so inspiring! Hi Kendra!
Lamplight Apparel has closed because Tiffany and Jacob are off on a new adventure – They’ll be traveling around the country in an Airstream. I do know that they sold some of their designs to other shops. Are you looking for something specific? I can definitely try to help you find what you’re looking for!
