Easter is one of my favorite times of the year. In our house, it’s more than cute ducks and bunnies, plastic eggs filled with candy Liam can’t eat and pastel-colored baskets greeting us at the kitchen table in the morning. For me, it marks the impending spring even if the weather hasn’t caught up yet. And of course, it’s when we observe Christ’s resurrection. While Jesus is always the most important part of our Easter celebration, I’m thankful J and I have the opportunity to introduce Liam to some of fun traditions we had growing up. Whichever side of the fence you may sit on for secular traditions during faith-based holidays, anything that has parents spending time with their kids making fun memories together is a good thing in my book. That’s why I was so thrilled to see this DIY Easter egg kit arrive in our mailbox from Goose Grease Shop recently.
It comes with everything you need: three blank wooden eggs, six non-toxic acrylic paint colors, sandpaper (for mistakes), two paint brushes (different sizes) and a clear top coat for sealing the paint when you’re done. The wood is fair trade and sustainably sourced from Bogotá, Colombia, so this whole kit is a kind and vegan alternative to traditional Easter egg dyeing.
If I’m being completely honest, J had to talk me down from covering up the whole table with paper to settling for an empty cereal box. I haven’t given Liam the opportunity to paint anything at our house because I’m always worried about the clean up. He loved it, though, so I may have to get over it and help him explore his creative side a little more often.
I’ll admit it…I saved one for me to do too. Can’t let Liam have all the fun, can I? He kept telling everyone all day long “I painted!” so I’m pretty sure this activity was a win.
