It’s no secret that we love Goldfish Swim School around here. We’ve done swim lessons at a few different places around Columbus and Goldfish is by far a better experience for the kids and for our family. There’s a lot of things we like about them, but I thought I’d give you a quick overview of why we love Goldfish so much:
Their cancellation/makeup policy
This is one of my favorite things about Goldfish Swim School. Why? Because with kids, things inevitably come up. Whether we’re traveling out of town somewhere or someone is home sick, the ability to cancel and reschedule a makeup swim lesson is huge. When we’ve taken swim lessons elsewhere, I always felt locked in for those nights. We couldn’t make any alternative plans that conflicted with lessons because they were already paid for. The flexible scheduling at Goldfish allows us enjoy swim lessons all year long in a more stress-free and convenient way.
Their commitment to water safety
It’s not just about teaching kids how to swim. Everyone at Goldfish Swim School prioritizes water safety. One of the first skills the boys have learned is how to float on their backs and how to climb out of a pool themselves. Water safety is something that’s addressed in every lesson and our local Goldfish even has a water safety event for the public every year.
Their amazing instructors
Goldfish Swim School’s instructors are really what make the place so amazing. They’re so encouraging and the boys love the high fives they get during their lessons. As a parent, I really like how great the instructors are with the kids. Liam can get a little silly and Caleb sometimes needs a little coaxing. Their swim instructors have always been able to see what each of their personalities need, whether it’s words of support or more of a no nonsense attitude.
Their ability to keep us on track
The last five minutes of every lesson are spent with the kids showing their parents a skill they worked on that day. After my kids take their turn, their instructor tells me about what skill(s) they need to work on. This has allowed us to practice at home in the bathtub, in the pool at the gym and even in hotel pools while we’re traveling. I also like that we get a checklist of which skills the boys need to master in order to move up to the next swim level. All of this has been great for us to help our kids practice what they’ve learned in their lessons and encourage them to work hard on each of their skills.
Their thoughtfulness
I received a call this week letting me know that Caleb’s class will now have a different instructor. This is not the first time we’ve gotten a call like this. It’s not a surprise that this happens occasionally as instructors’ schedules change. But what continues to impress me is how Goldfish understands that kids love consistency and some need a little preparation for big changes. The boys have loved every swim instructor they’ve had, but there are a couple that they’ve especially enjoyed. Knowing that there will be long-term changes ahead of time has helped me prep the kids to meet the new instructors so they’re not as surprised by the change.
We’ve taken the month off of lessons to adjust to being a family of five, but both kids are talking about how much they miss their lessons. They can’t wait to get back in the pool. We also can’t wait until Hannah is old enough to join them. Our friends at Goldfish actually sent us a little gift for her and we can’t wait until she’s big enough to wear her new swim diaper and goggles for her own swim lessons.
Do your kids go to Goldfish Swim School? What do you love about it?
